A Survey on the Recognition of Front Door of Unit Household for Crime Prevention

The empirical studies on crime prevention and related defensible space have been applied in the field of urban planning since 1990 for a safer urban environmental design. This study researches and analyzes people’s recognition of the role of front door which is a defense device installed in the housing unit (residential facility) with respect to crime prevention and privacy keeping, targeting male and female adults and then, based on the findings on front doors equipped with the crime prevention device as specified in the proposal 1, researches on how to improve the front door which is a security device in the housing unit (residential facility) for crime prevention. The research results are as follows. First, the design and development of the front door is required in order to prevent the crime which may occur due to the opening of the front door in the residential facility and prevent the invasion of privacy. Second, the function of front door shall be improved from a door for just access to a door having the functions of prevention of both crime and privacy invasion as specified in Proposal 1 for safe front door. This study suggests that the front door’s function of invasion defense performance as specified in the Appendix 1 of the Announcement for Crime Prevention Building should be improved to include the function of natural surveillance.
