인공지능을 생명이라 할 수 있는가?

Can artificial intelligence be called life?

본 연구는 생명에 관한 새로운 논의의 필요성을 인정하고 그런 논의를 위한 기초 작업을 진행하는 것을 목표로 한다. 오늘날 신생기술은 주어진 자연을 인간에게 유익하게 변형하는 데 그치는 것이 아니라 자연에 주어지지 않은 새로운 방식으로 자연을 재구성하거나 자연에 없는 것을 새롭게 창조해내는 단계로 접어들고 있기 때문에, 생명에 관해서도 새로운 논의가 필요하다. 기존에 없던 것이 새롭게 등장한 대표적인 것 중에 하나가 인공지능 혹은 로봇이다. 새로운 기술의 시대는 다른 한편으로 보면 우리가 생명에 대해 다시 묻는 기회를 제공한다. 그동안 철학에서 생명은 핵심적인 주제가 아니었다. 본 연구는 생명에 관한 일상적 개념과 과학적 정의를 살펴보고, 로봇 강아지의 장례식, 빅독 논란, 프로젝트 2501 등의 사례를 일상적 개념과 과학적 정의의 관점에서 따져 볼 것이다. 이를 토대로 생명에 관한 논의에서 핵심은 과학적 탐구가 아니라 철학적 성찰임을 확인할 것이다. 그리고 생명 개념이 고정된 것이 아니라 변경될 수 있는 것이며, 생명 개념의 확장을 위한 논의가 필요하다고 제안할 것이다.

This study recognizes the necessity of a new discussion on life and aims to carry out the basic work for such discussion. Today, there is a need for a new debate on life, because today s emerging new technologies are not just to transform a given nature beneficial to humans, but to rebuild nature in a new way that is not given to nature, or to create a new thing that is not in nature. One of the most notable new ones is artificial intelligence or robot. The age of emerging technologies, on the other hand, gives us an opportunity to ask about life again. Life has not been a central theme in philosophy. This study examines everyday concepts and scientific definitions of life, and examines cases such as the funeral of a robot dog, the BigDog controversy, and Project 2501 from the standpoint of everyday concepts and applying scientific definitions. Based on this, it will be confirmed that the core of discussion of life is the philosophical reflection, but not the study of scientific inquiry. And I will suggest that the concept of life is not fixed but can be changed, and discussion for expansion of life concept is needed.
