중간 상태에 관한 이론 유형들

그리스도교 신학에서 개인의 죽음과 일반 부활 사이의 시기를 의미하는 중간 상태는 교도권 문헌상에서 베네딕투스 12세의 Benedictus Deus(1336) 에 기원을 갖고 있다. 그것은 심판에 있어 ‘사후 즉시’와 ‘그럼에도 불구하고 최종심판 때’ 사이의 긴장을 내포하고 있다. 지난 세기에 영혼불멸과 분리된 영혼에 관한 비판으로부터 자극되어서 중간 상태를 해명하기 위한 다양한 이론 유형들이 제시되었다. 중간 상태에 대해 단순히 부정하는 영혼의 잠 이론과 전인의 총체적인 완전한 죽음 이론이 재론되었고, 죽음을 부활의 시작으로 보는 죽음 안에서의 부활 이론이 새롭게 제시되었고, 이로부터 죽음과 부활과 재림의 동시성 이론까지 파생되었다. 죽음 안에서의 부활 이론은 가톨릭 신학자들로부터 한때 폭넓은 동의를 얻었으나, 신앙교 리성(1979)과 국제신학위원회(1992)의 개입은 전통적인 표현들이 존중되기를 요청하였고 전통적인 관점의 재해석이 다시금 논의되고 있다. 논쟁은 끝나지 않은 채 열려있고 계속해서 논의 시도들이 이어지고 있다.

In Christian theology, the intermediate state which refers to the period between one’s death and the general resurrection has its magisterial origin in Pope Benedict XII’s Benedictus Deus(1336). It involves the tension between ‘immediate(mox) judgement after one’s death’ and ‘nevertheless(nihilominus) last judgement after the resurrection’. In the last century, various types of theories have been presented in order to explain the intermediate state; they were motivated from the criticism on the immortality of the soul and the separated soul. The theory of soul sleep which simply denies the intermediate state and the theory of complete death which implies the end of whole person were re-discussed. Also, the theory of the resurrection in death that understands death as the beginning of resurrection was newly suggested, and it led to the theory of the simultaneity of deathresurrection-second coming. While the theory of the resurrection in death had been widely received by Catholic theologians, the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith(1979) and the International Theological Commission(1992) called for respect for traditional expressions. Since then, reinterpretations of traditional view have been retrying, and personal oneness of the postmortem human being have been focusing. The debate on different views is not finished, and attempts for ongoing discussions are succeeding.
