앙리 베르그송의 기억 해석 이론을 바탕으로 한 루이스 부르주아의 조형 표현 연구

A Study on the Representation of Memory Reproduction of Louise Bourgeois based on the Memory Analysis Theory of Henri Bergson

앙리 베르그송(Henri Bergson, 1859~1941)은 기억을 정신의 본질이라 보았다. 그는 의식이 곧 기억이며, 연속되는 흐름으로 우리 경험의 전체를 의미하므로 의식상태의 지속이 곧 기억이라고 설명하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 루이스 부르주아(Louise Bourgeois, 1911~2010)의 작품을 분석하고 그녀의 과거에 대한 기억이 작품 속에서 어떻게 시각화 되고 표현되었는지를 알아보고자 한다. 기억에 대한 개념의 해석은 앙리 베르그송의 저서『물질과 기억』에서 제시한 개념을 바탕으로 고찰하였다. 첫째, 앙리 베르그송의 기억 개념을 통해 과거의 기억이 현재까지 이어져 서로 긴밀하게 미치는 상호적 관계에 대해 살펴보았다. 둘째, 베르그송의 기억 개념 본질에 대해 구체적으로 고찰하였다. 셋째, 기억에 대한 오브제를 작품으로 시각화한 루이스 부르주아의 조형작품을 통해 앙리 베르그송의 기억이론을 재해석하고자 하였다. 본 연구를 통해 19세기 앙리 베르그송의 기억해석 이론과 현대 섬유미술의 대표주자인 루이스 부르주아의 오브제 작품 간의 연결 고리를 살펴봄으로써, 향후 다양하고 깊이 있게 표현된 시각적 작품들이 여러 철학이론으로 해석되기를 기대한다.

Henri Bergson(1859~1941) regarded memory as the essence of the mind. He explained that consciousness is a memory, and that memory represents the whole of our experience in a continuous stream, so the continuation of consciousness is a memory. The purpose of this study is to analyze Louise Bourgeois s work and learn how her past memories are visualized and expressed in her work. The interpretation of the concept of memory was based on the concepts presented by Henri Bergson s book, Material and Memory. First, through the memory concepts of Henri Bergson, we looked at the mutual relationship in which memories of the past have continued to date and become close to each other. Second, we specifically discussed the nature of the memory concept of Bergson. Third, I tried to reinterpret the memory theory of Henri Bergson through Louise Bourgeois sculpture, which visualized the memory object as a work. Through this study, we hope that many philosophy theories will be expressed as diverse and deep visual works by examining the theory of memory analysis by Henri Bergson in the 19th century and the connection between works by Louise Bourgeois, the representative of contemporary textile art.
