The Effects of Makeup Prosthesis on the Formation of Brain Waves

  • 71

In modern society, appearance has become more important. The impairment of outward appearance causes the handicapped to feel psychologically constricted. As a result, they tend to engage in divergent behavior or fail to fit into their society. This study attempted to investigate the physiological effects of makeup prosthesis for those who are suffering from congenital or acquired disabilities. For this, an EEG test was performed, and EEG values were measured before and after wearing prosthesis among 10 test subjects. After that, EEG values during the prosthesis wearing test were measured, and the results were compared to EEG values before wearing prosthesis. Then, the responses to four different stimuli were compared to EEG values before wearing prosthesis. The results found the following: First, in terms of a response to four different stimuli, average brain frequency revealed a significant difference in the left and right prefrontal regions and left and right parietal lobes. In addition, negative brain waves were found because visual stimulation had a negative influence on the prefrontal region that regulates all brain systems. Second, when the EEG values from response to stimulus #2 were compared to the values after a month of wearing prosthesis, theta and alpha waves increased while beta and gamma waves and SEF50 decreased, generating positive brain waves. In other words, the subjects were psychologically more stable when they wore the prosthesis for one month than when they only looked at the stimulus #2.
