Analysis of the Current Development of Mobile-based Machine Interpreting and Translation Service in Korea

With the advancement of artificial intelligence technology, machine translation and interpretation has recently made remarkable progress. In Korea, mobile-based interpreting and translation service is being developed based on the technology specialized in Korean language. Naver, Hacom Interfree, and Systran International are providing translation service for domestic tourism and community interpreting service for foreign residents. However, the proliferation of existing applications makes it difficult for domestic companies to expand their applications. Also, they are not enough to develop into a global service because of the limited local services. With Korean-based database and skills, Korean translation and interpreting services need a systematic investment and strategy for globalization.
