Many speakers at international conferences are specialists of their own fields whose use of language is marked by specialized terminologies and jargons. In mediating communication between a speaker and the audience both of whom are specialists, an interpreter may experience barriers in not just comprehending the speaker s source language but also re-expressing the terms and expression into the target language in the way that is intelligible to specialist audience. The aim of the study is to examine the speeches of speakers and target language interpretations delivered at conferences to see what are the implications of the use of specialized terminologies with regard to the strategies for interpreting. Authentic speeches delivered at an international conference in Seoul and their target language interpretation were analyzed. On the basis of the findings, the study aims to propose ways to train student interpreters for more efficient acquisition and use of specialized terms and expressions at conferences.
