체코슬로바키아 레기온(Legion)의 반란과 러시아 내전 개입

Legion’s Revolt in Chelyabinsk and Intervention in Russian War

러시아에서 무려 6년 이상을 머물렀던 체코슬로바키아 레기온의 길고 험난했던 여정은 러시아 혁명과 브레스트-리토프스크 조약이 만들어낸 결과였다. 이 과정에서 레기온과 볼셰비키의 끊임없는 전투로 러시아 혁명은 일촉즉발의 위기에 처하기도 했었다. 레기온의 반란과 내전 개입이 연합국의 사주에 의한 것이었든 아니면 서부전선으로 이동하기 위한 레기온의 자발적 선택이었든 이들의 험난했던 여정은 러시아는 물론 미국 등 서방 세계에 큰 인상을 남겼고, 체코슬로바키아가 독립할 수 있었던 중요한 요인으로 작용했다. 이런 사실을 통해 본문의 첫 번째 부분에서는 레기온과 소비에트 러시아 사이의 충돌 원인이 무엇인지에 집중하여 1918년 5월 첼랴빈스크 기차역에서 발생한 레기온 반란을 둘러싼 혼란스런 상황을 살펴볼 것이다. 두 번째 부분에서는 레기온이 연합국의 군사적 지원도 받지 못한 상황에서 왜 그토록 오랫동안 소비에트와 전투를 치렀는지에 대한 원인을 살펴볼 것이다.

Czechoslovakia Legion s long and hard journey, which lasted for more than six years in Russia, was the result of the Russian Revolution and the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk. During this process, the constant battle between Legion and the Bolsheviks brought the Russian revolution to get into a desperately dangerous situation. Whether the battle between Legion and Bolshevik was by the Allies or Legion s willingness to escape from Russia voluntarily, it impressed the Western world, Russia and the United States, and greatly influenced the success of the independence movements abroad. It is clear that it was the most crucial factor for independence of Czechs and Slovaks from the foreign powers. Judging from these facts, in the first part of this paper, I examine the confused situation around the Legion’s revolt which began in May 1918 at railway station in Chelyabinsk, focusing on the causes of the collision between the Legion and Soviet Russia. In the second part, I focus on explaining why the Legion fight against Soviet for a long time despite of no military support from the Allied.
