프레이리 대화교육의 평생교육적 의미 고찰: 평생교육의 네 가지 원리 중심으로

A Study on the Lifelong Education Meaning of Freire s Dialogic Education: on the focus of the ‘four pillars of education’

본 논문에서는 프레이리의 ‘대화교육’에 나타난 교육사상을 평생교육적 관점에서 고찰함을 목적으로 한다. 그의 대화교육은 존재를 위한, 앎을 위한, 보다 더 인간화를 위한 교육으로 평생교육의 지향을 제시해 준다. 평생교육의 본질은 들로르(Delors) 보고서에서 제시한 앎을 위한(to know) 학습, 행하기 위한(to do) 학습, 더불어 살기 위한(to live together) 학습, 그리고 존재를 위한(to be) 학습으로 교육의 네 가지 원리(four pillars)을 규정하고 있다. 첫째, ‘앎을 위한 학습’은 대화교육의 근간을 이루는 유형으로 대화를 통해 앎이 일어나며, 물음과 탐구를 지향한다. 둘째, ‘행하기 위한 학습’은 대화교육의 실천적 유형으로 성찰적 사고와 실천이 동반된 행동의 결합을 통해 생성된다. 셋째, ‘더불어 살기 위한 학습’은 세계와 더불어 존재하고자함을 강조하는 대화교육의 유형으로, 인재 양성을 목적으로 하지 않는 모두를 위한 교육이다. 마지막으로 ‘존재를 위한 학습’은 대화교육 그 자체를 의미하며 인간은 의사소통의 대화적 존재이다. 인간의 가치를 지향하는 대화교육의 논의를 통해 교육 현장에 여전히 남아있는 침묵문화의 와해와 추가적인 풍부한 논의를 위한 토대를 제공할 것이다.

This thesis aims to consider the educational philosophy presented in Freire’s ‘dialogue education’ from the viewpoint of lifelong education. His dialogue education suggests the orientation of lifelong education for existence, for knowledge, for more humanization. The essence of lifelong education is defined as the four pillars of lifelong learning suggested in the Delors report: learning to live together, learning to know, learning to do, and, learning to be. First, learning for knowing is the type that forms the basis of dialogic education; and, knowledge is generated through dialogue and it aims at inquiry and research. Second, learning to do is a practical type of dialogic education, which is created through a combination of reflective thinking and action accompanied by practice. Third, learning to live together, which is the essence of lifelong education, is a type of dialogic education that emphasizes the desire to exist together with the world and it is education for all instead of aiming at nurturing talent. Finally, learning to be means dialogic education itself and human being is a dialogic existence of communication. Through discussions on dialogue education aimed at human values, we expect to provide a foundation for the ruining of silent cultures still remains in the educational field, and additional extensive discussion.
