박정희의 ‘민족’ 창조와 동원된 국민통합

박정희의 민족주의에 대한 기존의 연구들은 대체로 그 시대의 민족주의 전반을 조망하는 거대 담론 연구가 주류를 이루고 있었다. 반면에 최근의 연구들에서는 이러한 경향에서 탈피하여 박정희의 민족주의를 미시적 관점에서 분석하는 시도가 나타나기 시작했다. 이러한 연구들의 문제점은 박정희 개인의 관심과 그가 선창하고 유포한 민족주의 담론 사이의 연관성을 분명히 밝히지 않았다는 점이다. 박정희 시대의 민족주의를 다루는 대부분의 연구들은, 박정희의 생각 자체가 논란의 출발점임에도 불구하고, 박정희 시대의 문화 상징을 다루는 미시적 연구들에서조차 박정희 개인의 관심과 역할을 은연중에 배제시키고 있다. 이 글에서는 박정희 개인의 역사인식에서 출발하여 박정희 시대의 민족주의를 재조명함으로써, 1960-70년대 한국 역사의 주역과 그의 개인적 관심이 빚어낸 민족 담론 사이의 연관성을 밝히고자 한다. 이 글에서는 박정희와 그의 시대가 주목한 민족적 전통이 복원되는 과정과 그것의 정치적 함의를 탐구하고자 한다. 그리고 이를 통해서 박정희 개인과 역사의 교감이 이루어냈던 국민통합의 기치가 남긴 부정적 유산들을 성찰하고자 한다.

The previous literature on the Park Chung-hee s ideology was mainly interested in the gigantic discourse which dealt the general trends of Nationalism in his days. On the other hands the recent literature in this area has begun to analyze the micro aspects of Park s Nationalism. But the main problem of recent literature was that the communication between the private person Park Chung-hee and the nationalist discourse of his days did not run smoothly. Although the starting point of the study on the nationalism of Park s days is the idea of Park itself, most of the literature on Park s nationalism excluded Park s personal interests and role in the modernization process of Korea. This article, by focusing on the historical consciousness of Park Chung-hee and nationalism of his days, is to communicate the leading role of modernization and history in 1960 s and 1970 s Korea. For this purpose, this paper examines, first, the restoration process of national tradition and its political implications. Secondly, this paper is to reflect the negative legacies that the banner of national integration in Park s days left to the present time.
