국내석유제품의 가격결정모형에 대한 구조변화검증

Testing structural change in the pricing model of local petroleum products

본 연구는 Gregory and Hansen (1996) 검증방법을 이용하여 국제원유 가격, 원달러 환율과 국내석유가 격과의 공적분 관계에 구조변화가 발생하였는지 여부를 검증한 다음 구조변화 시점을 전후로 국내 석유가격 결정메커니즘에 어떠한 변화가 발생하였는가를 추정하였다. 국내 휘발유가격과 경유가격 모두 원유가와 환율과의 공적분관계(cointegration relationship)에서 구조 변화(structural change)가 발생한 것이 확인되었다. 휘발유가격모형에는 2008년을 기점으로 구조변화가 나타났고 경유가격모형에는 2002년~2003년을 전후로 구조변화가 나타나 휘발유가격과는 구조 변화 시점에서 큰 차이를 보였다. 구조변화 전후의 석유가격모형 추정결과를 보면, 국내 석유가격과 원유가와의 장기균형관계는 구조 변화 이전과 이후 모두 매우 유의적인 양의 관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다. 다만 구조변화 이전에는 원유가 충격이 오랜 시차를 두고 서서히 국내가격에 반영된 반면, 구조변화 이후에는 원유가 충격이 빠르게 반영되는 것으로 나타났다. 한편 환율와의 장기균형관계에서는 휘발유와 경유가 서로 다른 움직임 보였다. 휘발유가격에 대한 환율의 공적분계수는 구조변화 이후 유의성이 크게 낮아진 반면, 경유가격에 대해서는 구조변화 이후에도 여전히 유의적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.

This paper tests the structural change in the cointegration relationship among crude oil price, won-dollar exchange rate and local gasoline and diesel prices using residual-based test of Gregory and Hansen (1996). Once the structural change has been confirmed, we then investigated what changes happened to domestic petroleum pricing models. Structural change is accepted in the cointegration vectors in both gasoline and diesel pricing models. Structural break in the gasoline model happened in 2008, while that was estimated to be 2002-2003 in the diesel pricing model. From the estimation results of pricing models of petroleum products in the pre-break period and post-break period, we see that the long-run relationship between crude oil price and local petroleum prices is significantly positive in both periods. One difference between pre-break and post-break periods is that the adjustment speed of domestic petroleum prices to crude oil price became higher in the post-break period. Cointegration vector of exchange rate loses the statistical significance after the structural break in the gasoline pricing model, while it continues to be significant after the structural break in the diesel pricing model.
