아라 파키스의 행렬 프리즈와 아우구스투스의 정치전략

The Frieze of Procession in Ara Pacis Augustae and the Political Strategic of Augustus

아라 파키스의 북쪽 행렬과 남쪽 행렬은 동쪽에서 서쪽, 즉 희생 제단 쪽으로 향했다. 행렬 프리즈들의 조각들에 대한 해석은 세 유형으로 정리할 수 있다. 첫 번째 유형은 정치적 측면으로 아우구스투스 가문과 프린키파투스 체제를 위한 프로파간다의 확립이고 이를 통해 아우구스투스의 후계자 선정과 계승체계를 정립시킴으로써 프린키파투스 체제의 안정을 기하고자 했다. 두 번째 유형은 외교적 측면으로 정복한 예속국가들과의 대외관계와 로마화를 안정적으로 확립시켜 영원한 로마 제국이라는 위상을 확대시켜 나가고자 하였다. 세 번째 유형은 사회적 측면으로 프린키파투스 초기에 발생한 저출산 현상으로 인한 로마 사회의 불안정을 해소하기 위해 일련의 결혼법들을 시행하여 아우구스투스는 로마 사회의 안정화와 건전성을 정립시키고자 하였다. 결국 아우구스투스는 로마 공화정 시대 로마 제국이 외치로써 이탈리아 반도의 통일과 내치로써 귀족과 평민의 단합으로 조화를 이루듯이 그의 체제인 프린키파투스 체제를 기반으로 외치로써 동방과 서방 지역에서 제국의 안정화를, 내치로써 후계자의 확보와 로마 가문의 안정을 성취하면서 로마 제국을 황금시대로 이어지게 했다.

The Ara Pacis was a symbolic icon to commemorate the return of Agrippa to Rome after his three-year campaign in the East as well as the adventus of Augustus from his reorganization of Gaul and Spain. Processions of the south and the north in Ara Pacis tended toward the altar from the east to the west. The interpretation of processional friezes can be divided into three types. The first type is the establishment of propaganda for the Augustan family and the principate system and try to seek the stability of principate system by setting up the successor selection and the succession system after Augustus as a political aspect. The second type try to extend the status of eternal Roman empire by stabilizing the foreign relation and the Romanization between Roman empire and subordinating nations as a diplomatic aspect. The third type try to strengthen the stability and the soundness of Roman society through Augustan marriage laws in order to alleviate the instability of Roman empire due to the evasion of marriage and the low birthrate in the early principate system as a social aspect. In the long run, Augustus accomplished the stability of Roman empire in the west and the east as a foreign policy and the secure of heirs and the stability of Roman family as a domestic policy through the principate system as if Roman empire in Roman republic achieved the unification of Italian peninsular as a foreign policy and the unity of Plebs and Patricii as a domestic policy.
