Spatial Distribution of Plankton around Artificial Reefs with Variation in the Tidal Current Direction

This paper evaluated the spatial distribution of plankton around artificial reefs (ARs) in accordance with the tidal current direction. Plankton were collected at six target ARs that are part of three trial sea-farm projects in the East Sea, Yellow Sea, and Jeju coast of Korea. The abundance and species composition of plankton were high in the coastal waters in winter and higher offshore in summer. The ARs had an effect up to approximately 2L from the center of the artificial reef, where L is the width of the AR.
