독일의 근대화 과정과 여성운동 문제

The Process of German Modernization and Women s Campaign

독일 부르주아 여성운동은 두 부문에서 해방을 위한 노력을 시도하였다. 한편으로 부르주아 여성운동은 여성의 물질적 상태와 법적 지위의 개선을 위해 노력했고, 다른 한편으로 독일 사회가 갖고 있는 여성에 대한 이데올로기의 변화를 위해 노력하였다. 독일 여성 운동 내부의 급진파는 여성적인 성별 특징에 관한 독일 내부의 사회적인 관념이 여성의 발달가능성에 장애물이 된다고 인식하였다. 그로 인해 독일 부르주아 여성운동에서 여성의 정치참여에 관한 두 가지 서로 분리된 정책이 전개되었다. 급진파는 성별특징에 관한 전통적인 관념들로 인해 여성들의 활동영역이 제한되고, 인간적 존엄이 손상된다고 인식하였다. 급진파는 ‘여성은 인간으로서 모든 범위에서 그 자신의 관심사를 주장할 수 있어야 하고, 그 정치적인 선호에 따라 공적인 영역에서도 자신의 이해관계를 주장할 수 있어야 한다’고 입장을 밝혔다. 급진파에게 정치적인 참여권은 여성의 신성한 인간적 존엄의 일부였고, 평등한 인간상의 핵심이었다. 독일 부르주아 여성운동의 급진파 여성들은 민주적인 참여권에 대한 요구와 더불어 인간으로서 정치적인 자결권을 요구하였다. 그들은 동등한 가치가 있고 동등한 자격이 있는 권리의 주체로서 독일 여성이 인정받기 위해 노력하였다.

In Germany, two different efforts were made in bourgeois women s movement to seek after liberation. One aimed to improve women s material conditions and legal status, and the other aimed to change German society s ideology of women. Radical feminists argued that German society s idea about women s gender characteristics was one of barriers to the development of women s potentials, and two different policies for women s political participation were executed in the bourgeois women s movement due to such a belief. The radicals believed that typical ideas about gender characteristics resulted in restricting the sphere of women s activity and hurting their human dignity, and they argued that women should be able to assert their own concerns in every field as human beings, and that they should be able to assert their own interests in the public sector as well based on their own political preference. For the radicals, political rights were part of women s sacred human dignity and were the core of human equality. The female radicals who conducted the bourgeois women s movement in Germany claimed not only the right of democratic participation but political self-determination as human beings. They tried to make German women acknowledged as the subjects of rights who were as valuable and eligible as men.
