17세기 말 동인도회사의 수입무역 연구

The Study on Import Trade of the English East India Company in the late 17th Century -with Emphasis of Indian Cotton -

Many countries of Europe including England became prefer Indian cotton in the late 17th century. It is called craze for calicoes of craze for India. There are lots of obstacles to use Indian cotton instead of English one because England had have the long history of cotton industry. Therefore it was great reform that England imported calicoes and Indian cotton, and then re-exported it to other European countries. Importing and re-exporting calicoes Indian cotton were estimated the great renovation. The renovation of calicoes cotton industry played the important role to develop Industrial Revolution. And this kind of renovation was based on the good supply of Indian cotton to western Europe. This Study, therefore, mainly concerns the craze for calicoes in the late 17th century. The English East India Company injected vigor to the English economic world because this organization imported Indian cotton at a low price to use the large scale transport capacity. The Indian cotton had the excellent quality, even though low price, in terms of fashion and laundry, and threatened the western cotton industry. The western cotton industry, consequently, become spend a great effort to cope with the inflow and demand of Indian cotton, moved on the Industrial Revolution with the renovation of Lancashire cotton industry. Are the anything to contribute English industrialization, Industrial Revolution, and the establishment of capitalistic economy more than the import trade of Indian cotton? The formation of capitalistic modern industry require the accumulation of capital and the supply of cheap labor force. Indian cotton that has the good quality gave the deep economical stimulation to western cotton industry. The English East India Company played a decisive role to produce the economical stimulation and vitality. The English East India Company sought to monopolize a market, extended its business to the east coast of India with the use of armed force. The import trade of Indian cotton by English East India Company has an important effect on the formation of English capitalism.
