본 논문은 누가복음과 사도행전에 등장하는 명사 피스티스의 은유와 환유적 사용을 연구한다. 방법론은 인지 언어학의 은유와 환유이론이다. 누가복음과 사도행전에 등장하는 피스티스는 볼 수 있거나 자랄 수 있으며 증가되거나 축소되며 주고받을 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 사라질 수도 있는 개체로 상호연결 되고 있다. 본 논문은 그같은 용례들을 은유적 연결짓기의 예로 제시하면서 누가행전의 피스티스는 총 열 개의 개념적 은유로 세분화된다고 주장한다. 더불어 누가행전에서 피스티스는 총 다섯 가지의 인접 정보(예수님에 대한 교회의 가르침, 하나님과 예수님, 하나님과 예수님이 하신 일, 특정 태도를 취하는 신자, 신자의 특정 행동)를 원형적 지식으로 가지고 있으며 그 사용 맥락에 따라 다른 정보가 활성화된다. 본 논문은 그 인접정보를 개념적 환유로 명명한 후 주해 시 그같은 개념적 환유를 환기하는 것이 각각의 본문 이해에 어떤 도움을 줄 수 있는지 보여준다. 본 논문의 공헌은 주해가들에게 누가복음과 사도행전에 등장하는 피스티스의 다양한 비유적 용례들을 보다 정교하게 이해할 수 있는 인지 언어학적 토대를 제공하는 데 있다
The aim of this research is to study the metaphoric and metonymic use of “faith”(pi,stij) in Luke-Acts. In accordance with the definition of cognitive linguistics, the present study construes metaphor as an interaction (mapping) between target domain, the object of understanding (i.e person or thing), and source domain; the figurative expression used to understand the object or person. I also understand metonymy as an interaction between one thing and the other thing within the same domain. I refer to these mappings as conceptual metaphor and conceptual metonymy, which are George Lakoff’s and Mark Johnson’s terms. The noun pi,stij which is classified as an abstract noun is mapped in terms of an entity which can be seen, increased and diminished, given and taken, and disappear in Luke-Acts. This means that the understanding of pi,stij may be possible on the basis of metaphorical mapping. Likewise, pi,stij in Luke-Acts is used in reference to five prototypical information within the pi,stij-frame: the church’s message(kerygma), God revealed in Jesus, God’s/Jesus’s work, believers who are in a specific attitudes, and believers’ own specific attitudes motivated by faith. And it is in virtue of being constrained by co-texts such as clauses, sentences and paragraphs that pi,stij may highlight a specific part as “the active zone” among the contiguous entities.
