신입생 핵심역량이 학업 성취에 미치는 영향: A 대학 사례를 중심으로

Analysing of the Effects of Core Competencies on Academic Achievement: Focusing on Freshman at A university in Seoul

본 연구는 신입 대학생의 핵심역량에 초점을 맞추어 핵심역량이 주요 학업 성취지표인 학점 및 학사경고에 미치는 영향을 살펴봄으로써 신입생의 핵심역량 기반 교육과정 개발에 필요한 실천적 함의를 제공하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 서울 소재 대규 모 사립 대학교인 A 대학에서 자체 개발한 핵심역량진단 2016∼2018년도 조사결과를 사용하여 다중 회귀분석 및 로지스틱 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 총 3,403명의 분석 대상을 활용하여 분석한 결과 신입생의 6대 핵심역량 가운데 성실성, 종합적사고력, 주도성은 최초학기 GPA에 정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며 특히 성실성은최초학기 학사경고 여부에도 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 이에 따라 학교 지원을 통해 신입생들의 학업 성취를 보다 효율적으로 향상시키고 더 나아가 장기적인 차원에서 학교 단위의 중도탈락률을 관리하기 위해서는 신입생을 대상으로 한 성실성(자기조절능력, 체계적이행능력) 향상 교육과정 개발과 운영에 각별한 관심과 노력을 기울일 것을 제안하였다.

This study analyzed the effects of core competency on the major academic achievement indicators such as grade points average and academic probation focusing on freshman at A university in Seoul. Through this, it aimed to provide basic data necessary for the development of curriculum based on the core competency for freshman. To achieve this, multiple regression analysis and logistic regression analysis were conducted using the results of the 2016∼2018 core competences assessment, which was developed by A university, a large private university in Seoul. As a results, among the six core competencies of freshman students, sincerity, initiative, and comprehensive thinking capability were found to have a statistically significant effect on the first semester GPA. Especially, sincerity was also found to have an effect on first semester academic probation. Based on such findings, this study suggested that it is necessary for university to develop the curriculum improving the sincerity (self-control capability and systematic implement capability), By dong so, it will be possible to improve the academic achievement of freshmen more effectively through school support, and furthermore, to manage the dropout rate at the school level on a long-term basis.
