자유학기를 활용한 중학생의 ‘깊은 학습’(LiD) 프로그램 개발 및 효과 연구

학습주도력 및 문제해결력 배양이 어느 때보다 중요해진 상황에서 연구자는 캐나다 교육학자 K. Egan이 제안한 ‘깊은 학습’(LiD) 개념에 주목한다. 한 가지 주제를 중심으로 학습자 스스로 학습을 주도하는 깊은 학습(LiD) 수행을 통해 학습주도력과 문제해결력 배양이 가능할 것으로 보고 이 연구는 이 개념을 적용한 중학교 자유학기활동 프로그램을 개발하고 효과검증을 시도한다. 프로그램은 자유학기에 적용될수 있도록 총 10주, 20시간 분량으로, LiD 활동을 효율적으로 촉진할 수 있는 몇 가 지 중요 요소로 구성되었다. 구안된 프로그램은 광주광역시 중학교 1학년 46명을 대상으로 실시되었고, 효과분석을 위해 사전-사후 검사를 통한 단일표본 t-검증이 수행되었다. 연구 결과, 프로그램에 참여한 학생들의 학습주도와 문제해결력에 전반적 인 향상이 이루어졌음을 확인할 수 있었다. 학습주도력의 5개 하위 영역 중 4개 영역에서, 8개 문제해결 영역 중 5개 영역에서 프로그램 적용 전-후 점수가 유의미한 증가를 보였다. 소수 학생만을 대상으로 진행된 이 연구의 결과를 일반화하는 데 한계 가 있을 것으로 보이지만, 그럼에도 불구하고 LiD 개념을 적용한 국내 첫 프로그램개발과 효과검증 연구라는 점에서 의의를 갖는다고 보며, 향후 본격적인 연구 수행을 통해 우리 학교에서도 학생주도의 탐구 활동이 활발히 이루어지는 역동적인 공간 으로 쇄신되기를 기대한다.

Recently, the importance of self-directed learning ability and problem-solving skills have been emphasized more than ever. This study focuses on the concept of ‘Learning-in-depth’(LiD) proposed by K. Egan, a well-known Canadian educator, which is expected to be a useful way to improve students’ abilities of self-directed learning and problem-solving skills. The purpose of this study is to develop a program for free semester of middle school applying this concept and verify its effectiveness. The developed LiD program consists of several important elements that could efficiently facilitate LiD activities, in a total of 10 weeks, 20 hours. The program was applied to 46 first-year middle school students in Gwangju, and single-sample t-testing was carried out through pre-post inspection for effect analysis. As a result of the study, the researcher can ascertain the overall improvement in the self-directed learning ability and problem-solving skills of the students who participated in the LiD program. Although there is a limit to the generalization of research results, this study is tmeaningful in that it is the first study of LiD program development and effectiveness verification. More research needs to be carried out in the future at a wider and higher level. Through this, the researcher hope our school will be transformed into a dynamic space where student-led explorations take place actively.
