역사 교재로서의 사진: 맥락화 교수학습의 적용 가능성

Photograph as Historical Materials: Teaching Historical Literacy

역사 교재로서의 사진에 대한 기존 연구들은 사진이 갖는 역사적 증거력을 강조하는 맥락에서 과거 사실을 생생하게 재현하는 매체라는 점에 강조를 두어 왔다고 할 수 있다. 이에 본 논문은 사진이 과거를 생생하게 재현하는 것 외에도, 역사 문해 력 함양을 위해 교재로서 활용될 수 있는 가능성에 주목하였다. 특히 본 논문은, 최근 연구들이 발전시키고 있는 역사 텍스트 독해에 대한 맥락화 교수학습의 방법을 비문자 텍스트인 사진 활용 역사 교수학습 활동에도 적용할 수 있음을 사례를 통해 제시하였다. 주로 문자 텍스트에 적용하여 연구되어온 출처 확인, 비교와 대조, 종합의 과정을 사진에 적용하여 역사교사의 발문과 함께하는 맥락화 교수학습의 과정을제시하였다. 이를 통해 본 논문은 문자 텍스트뿐 아니라 비문자 텍스트도 맥락화 교 수학습을 통한 역사 문해력 함양에 기여할 수 있다는 점을 보여 주었다.

Today we are surrounded by flooding multi-media and visual images. In this situation, there are so many materials and variable media for teaching and learning history. This study analyzes photograph as historical materials. Above all, photography is a media to explore the implication of historical evidence. And it can be used for cultivating historical literacy. For developing historical literacy, history teachers need to understand historian’s thinking and reading skills. The skills can apply to read photograph in historical context. Reading the historical text and thinking historically include sourcing, corroboration, and contextualization. This article attempts to show possibilities for reading and contextualizing photograph historically.
