자유학기제 영어수업에 대한 중학생들의 인식연구

Middle School Students’ Perception on English Classes for Free Learning Semester

본 연구의 목적은 자유학기제 영어수업에 대한 중학생들의 인식과 선호 사항을 파악하는데 있다. 이를 위하여 2017년 2학기에 중학교 1학년 116명을 대상으로 설문 조사를 실시하였다. 설문의 객관식 문항에 대해서는 빈도와 백분율을, 서술형 문항 에 대해서는 핵심 단어를 뽑아서 결과를 산출하였다. 연구결과 자유학기 영어수업에 대한 학생들의 생각은 대체로 긍정적이었다. 학생들은 자유학기제 영어수업이 더 재미있으며 자신들의 꿈과 끼를 키우는데 도움이 된다고 느끼고 있었다. 그런데 학생 들은 단순히 영어를 학습하는 방식보다는 영어를 매개로 한 창의성이 발로되며 신체를 사용하는 활동을 선호하고, 친구들과 상호작용할 수 있고 협력할 수 있는 수업방식을 선호하였다. 따라서 성공적인 자유학기 영어수업이 되기 위하여 기존의 영어 독후감 같은 수업보다는 영어연극과 뮤지컬 같은 창의․융합형 수업에 더 중점을 둘 필요가 있다. 결론에서 이를 실행에 옮기기 위한 방법이 제안되었다

This study investigates middle school students’ perception of and preferences for their English classes for Free Learning Semester. A survey was conducted on a total of 116 middle school students in the 2nd semester in 2017. The collected data was analyzed in frequency and percentage for multiple choice questions and in keyword for open-ended questions. The results showed that the students are positive about their English classes for Free Learning Semester. They think the classes are more fun than regular English classes and are useful in fostering their dreams and specialties. However, they prefer English-medium activities where they can utilize their creativity and their body and can interact and cooperate more with their classmates. Therefore, in oder for English classes for Free Learning Semester to be successful, the classes need to be centered on creative and convergent activities such as drama and musical rather than traditional ones like writing book diaries. The ways to transform class activities are discussed based on the research results.
