Exploring the Types of Counselors according to Counseling Training, Multicultural Counseling Education, and Multicultural Counseling Practice

본 연구에서는 국내 상담자를 대상으로 상담수련, 다문화상담교육, 다문화상담실무를 바탕으로 군집분석을 실시하여 다문화상담 전문성 측면에서의 하위집단을 분류하고, 각 집단별로 일반상담역량, 다문화상담역량, 성격에 차이가 있는지를 살펴보 았다. 상담자 146명을 대상으로 관련 변인을 측정하고 이단계 군집분석을 실시한 결과 3개의 군집이 적합한 것으로 나타났다. 상담수련, 다문화상담교육 및 다문화상담실무에 따라 분류된 군집 1은 ‘일반 상담자’ 집단으로, 일반상담역량, 다문화상담역량 모두 가장 낮은 수준으로 확인되었다. 군집 2는 ‘숙련된 상담자’ 집단으로, 일반상담역량은 높으나 다문화상담능력은 중간 수준이었으며, 군집 3은 ‘다문화상담 숙련 상담자’ 집단으로, 일반상담역량과 다문화상담역량 모두 가장 높은 수준인 것으로 나 타났다. 각 군집에 따른 상담자의 성격, 즉 개방성 및 수용성의 차이는 유의미하지 않았다. 분석결과를 바탕으로 다문화 상담 교육에서의 시사점과 후속 연구를 위한 제언을 논의하였다.

The present study is to identify the group of Korean counselors in terms of their levels of counseling training, multicultural counseling education and multicultural counseling practice and to examine the differences among groups in counseling competence, multicultural counseling competence and characteristics. A total of 146 Korean counselors participated in the survey and two step cluster analysis was conducted. The result revealed that three clusters are appropriate. Cluster 1 classified into counseling training, multicultural counseling education and counseling practice was named as ‘general counselor group, and general counseling competence and multicultural counseling competence were all lowest. Cluster 2 is a group of ‘skilled counselors , general counseling competence is high but multicultural counseling competence is medium level. Cluster 3 is a group of ‘multicultural counseling counselor group, and both general counseling and multicultural counseling competence are the highest . There was no significant difference in the personality, ie, openness and acceptability, of the counselors according to each cluster. Based on the results of the analysis, implications for multicultural counseling education and suggestions for future study were discussed.
