This study attempted to investigate differences in emotional labor and turnover intention by demographic characteristics and analyze the effects of emotional labor on turnover intention against hairdressers. For this, a questionnaire survey was performed among 400 hairdressers in Gwangju and Jeonnam, using convenience sampling, and 356 copies were used for final analysis. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, factor analysis, reliability analysis, t-test, ANOVA, Duncan’s test and regression analysis were conducted using SPSS 21.0, and the results found the following: First, emotional labor was divided into surface acting and deep acting. Second, emotional labor and turnover intention revealed a statistically significant difference by demographic characteristics (age, career, beauty salon type, job title, monthly pay) (p<.01). Third, perceived emotional labor revealed a positive influence on turnover intention with statistical significance (p<.01). In terms of effects on turnover intention by emotional labor, surface acting was greater than deep acting. Therefore, beauty salon owners need to improve the quality of hairdressing services with a program which can reduce such emotional labor and turnover intention.
