Mediated Effects of Middle School Students Anxiety in the Relation

The purpose of this study was to investigate mediated effects of middle school students anxiety in the relation between family strengths and smartphone addiction proneness. For this purpose, the data from 474 middle school students(222 boys, 252 girls) were analyzed and structural equation modeling was employed to test the goodness of fit of the mediation models in which the relation between family strengths and smartphone addiction proneness was mediated by their anxiety. The results of this study were summarized as follows. First, There were significant negative correlation among family strengths and anxiety, significant negative correlation among family strengths and smartphone addiction proneness. Also significant positive correlations among anxiety and smartphone addiction proneness was found. Second, Bootstrapping procedure was applied to test mediated effects identified that family strengths affected smartphone addiction proneness through anxiety. These results supported an integrative framework delineating the role of anxiety as mediators in the process through which family strengths affected smartphone addiction proneness. It also implied the necessity of implementing both intervention and prevention of smartphone addiction proneness.
