A Study on the Ethical Fashion Consumer Behaviors and Self-esteem in Female Adolescents

The purpose of this study was to understand trends and differences in female students’ self-esteem and ethical consumer behavior of clothing products, and to analyze correlation to obtain basic data on ethical consumption behavior of clothing products. For this purpose, we surveyed female students in South Jeolla Province and used 488 of them for final analysis. Frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, Cronbach’s α coefficient, factor analysis, t-test, ANOVA, and Duncan, which are statistical programs for analysis of data. The main findings of this study are summarized as follows: First, it turns out that female high school students made purchases that considered the environment rather than female middle school students, and did ethical usage and disposal activities. Second, the difference in ethical consumer behavior in apparel products caused by female students’ self-esteem is that when self-esteem is high, the planned purchase behavior of clothing products is high and ethical usage and disposal behavior is high. Third, the higher the sense of self-esteem, the more planned the purchase, the more ethical the use and disposal of clothing products.
