This study selects 10 episodes of countries with a high rate of marriage migrant women of a TV program <The Biographies of Multi-cultural Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law> to use it as basic information for development of a family relation improvement program in multi-cultural policy for marriage migrant women, so understands conflict factors between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law of marriage migrant women, and analyzes the conversational patterns creating a conflict on a conversation between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. There are five kinds of conflict factors between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law of marriage migrant women such as a conflict caused by a culture gap, a conflict caused by economic problems, a conflict caused by role expectation, a conflict caused by language, and a conflict caused by intervention of mother-in-law. Especially, a conflict caused by a culture gap is the highest conflict of both mothers-in-law and marriage migrant women. As a result of analyzing conflict factors between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law by countries, a conflict caused by a culture gap is in every country, a conflict caused by economic problems is showed in Cambodian and Mongolian daughters-in-law, and a conflict caused by role expectation is showed in Chinese, Cambodian, and Vietnamese daughters-in-law. A conflict caused by language is showed in Thai and Vietnamese daughters-in-law, and a conflict caused by intervention of mother-in-law is showed only in Philippine daughters-in-law. In a conflict caused by a culture gap, assimilation that mother-in-law does not understand culture of daughter-in-law and forces Korean culture acts as a conflict factor. In a conflict caused by role expectation, role expectation of daughter- in-law and patriarchal culture in Korea from a notion of preferring a son to a daughter act as conflict factors. In a conflict caused by economic problems, conflict factors between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law are that daughter-in-law cannot participate in family events of her parents’ home, mother-in-law holds the purse strings because of insufficient financial sense of daughter-in-law, and daughter-in-law helps her parents’ home economically. A conflict caused by language is showed in marriage migrant women with short marriage, and while marriage is long, Korean skills of daughters-in-law are improved, so a conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law decreases. A conflict caused by intervention of mother-in-law is often showed when marriage migrant women live under the same roof with mothers-in-law, and continuos interventions such as cooking, surprise visits, and frequent calls act as conflict factors. Most conversational patterns creating a conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law such as lashing, criticizing, comparing, insulting her character, grumbling, scolding, ignoring, and finding fault are often showed in mother-in-law, and daughter-in-law responds with relatively passive action such as interrupting mother-in-law. As above, the biggest conflict factor is a conflict caused by a culture gap in the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law, and it is necessary to educate culture comprehension between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law to reduce conflict between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law of marriage migrant women. To reduce a conflict through conversation, an education for improvement of family relations and communication and a continuous Korean education for marriage migrant women are needed.
