코미디 영화에 나타난 인종 간 결혼갈등 연구

A Study of Interracial Marriage Conflicts in the Comedy Films

본고는 인종 간 결혼 반대를 소재로 한 대표적인 코미디 영화인 <초대받지 않은 손님>& <게스 후?>, <나의 그리스식 웨딩>, <컬러풀 웨딩즈>를 통해 인종 간 결혼갈등의 의미를 살펴보았다. 이들 영화는 인종 간 결혼갈등이라는 무거운 주제를 영화적 허구 속에서 억지로 가짜 통합과 화해를 통해 해결하려는 모습을 보여준다. 그리고 이 가짜 통합을 주도하며 영화를 해피엔딩으로 이끈 인물들 모두 예외 없이 여자 주인공 아버지들이다. 이에 반해 등장인물들의 어머니들은 타인종 간 결혼에 대해 유연한 사고를 가지고 있음에도 불구하고 그녀들은 이러한 결혼갈등을 풀어갈 주도권을 지니지 못한다. 결국 이 네 편의 인종 간 결혼갈등을 다룬 영화들이 만들어낸 웃음코드는 가짜 통합내지 인종주의와 결부된 가부장제가 만들어낸 현실의 역설적 전이 현상에 의한 것들이다. 하지만 사회적 갈등을 다루고 있는 이런 코미디 영화들의 획일화 된 결말은 앞으로 제작될 인종 혹은 다문화 갈등을 소재로 한 코미디 영화들이 지양해야 될 웃음코드이다. 이러한 웃음코드야말로 해결되지 않는 갈등과 상처를 희화화하는 또 다른 폭력일 수 있기 때문이다.

This paper looked at the meaning of interracial marriage conflict through <Guess Who’s Coming To Dinner>& <Guess Who?>, <My Big Fat Greek Wedding> and <Serial Bad Weddings> These films show that they are trying to resolve the heavy topic of interracial marriage conflict through fake integration and reconciliation. However, it can be seen that in all four movies examined in this article, the interracial marriage conflict is ended with happy endings or similar integration led by the father of the women. On the other hand, although the mothers of the characters have more flexible thinking about interracial marriage than their fathers, they show that they can not reach the point of presenting the initiative or solution to solve the interracial marriage conflict. After all, the laughter codes created by these four interracial marriage conflicts are due to the paradoxical transmigration of reality created by the fake integration or the patriarchal clan system, which is linked to racism. However, the uniform ending of these comedy films dealing with social conflicts is a laughing code that should be avoided for movies based on ethnic conflicts or multicultural conflicts to be produced in the future. This laughing code can be another violence that comical of conflict and hurt that can not be solved.
