Comparisons of test- retest reliability of strength measurement of abductor hallucis between break and make test in subjects with hallux valgus

  • 2

This study compared the test-retest reliability of break and make measures of abductor hallucis strength. Twenty-four subjects with hallux valgus were enrolled. To measure the strength of the abductor hallucis, the break test was performed using a hand-held dynamometer, and the make test using a tension meter in a sitting position. All intraclass correlation coefficients were significantly higher for the make test than for the break test of abductor hallucis strength (make test, 0.84 ; break test, 0.72). Measurements of abductor hallucis strength are more reliable with the make test than with the break test in subjects with hallux valgus.
