The Chatter of Kim Soo-Young’ Poetry

본 고에서는 김수영이 요설을 도입하여 요설의 시를 전개하는 배경과 양상을 구체적으로 살펴보고 그 특징을 규명하였다. 김수영은 요설, 잡담, 수다를 같은 뜻으로 사용하고 있었지만, 일상과 관련하여서는 ‘잡담’과 ‘수다’를, 문학과 관련하여서는 ‘요설’을 사용하였다. 김수영이 시에 요설을 도입하게 되는 것은 시에 일상성을 도입하고자 하였던 점, 구어체를 다양하게 실험하였던 점, 반시를 추구해나간 점, 침묵의 시학을 전개하였던 점 등과 깊은 관련을 지니고 있었다. 김수영이 시에 요설을 도입한 것은 1960년경부터였는데, 처음에는 일상어의 요설에 치중하였다. 「하…… 그림자가 없다」가 대표적인 예인데, 여기서 그는 일상어의 요설로 현대 사회의 일상성을 표현하였다. 그는 구어체의 요설도 다양한 방식으로 모색하였다. 일상 담화에 토대를 두면서도 부호, 이름, 의성어 등을 활용하여 요설을 이어나갔으며 이미지의 요설을 실험하기도 하였다. 「엔카운터 지(誌)」에서는 이야기의 여백을 채우는 요설을 선보였고, 「전화이야기」에서는 잡담 전화의 요설로, 몽타주의 요설을 보여주기도 하였다. 시작 말년에 이르러서는 소리의 요설을 실험하였는데,「의자가 많아서 걸린다」에서 소리의 요설은 냉전 이데올로기를 해체하는 방법이 되었다. 김수영 문학에서 요설은 현대성을 드러내고 비판하는 방법이 되었다는 점, 한국 구술 시의 전통을 독자적으로 계승하였다는 점, 반시의 구체적 방법론이 되었다는 점, 침묵의 시창작방법론이 되었다는 점 등의 의의를 지니고 있었다.

Kim, Soo-young introduced the chatter in his poetry in 1960s. He concentrated on various theories of the chatter in the various philosophy and literature and presented his own poetics of the chatter. His introduction of chatter to poetry is deeply related to the facts that he intended to introduce dailiness to poetry, he diversely experimented colloquial style, he pursued anti-poetry, and he developed poetics of silence, etc. At first, Kim Soo Young focused on chatter of everyday language. He utilized marks, names, onomatopoeia, etc. for chatter of colloquial style and experimented chatter of image. And then, he showed chatter filling the blank of story in Magazine Encounter. In Phone Story, he showed chatter of phone and chatter of montage. In his later years, he experimented overtalk of sound. The chatter of Kim Soo Young’s poetry is significant as it showed modernity and becomes the way to offer criticism, autonomously succeeded the tradition of Korean oral poetry, becomes concrete methodology of anti-poetry, becomes creation methodology of poetry of silence, etc.
