Seedling Quality of Broad-leaved Evergreen Trees with Different Shading Levels

  • 4

This study was carried out to investigate the morphological-physiological changes with different shading levels of Distylium racemosum Sieb. et. Zucc, Illicium anisatum L., Neolitsea aciculata (Bl.) Koidz., and Stauntonia hexaphylla (Thunb.) Decne. The leaf area of D. racemosum, I. anisatum, and N. aciculata increased by 95% shading in direct proportion as shading level and the number of leaves showed highest at 35% shading. The number of shoots of D. racemosum significantly decreased at 95% shading. S. hexaphylla showed highest at 35% shading. The Light compensation point and total chlorophyll content of D. racemosum, I. anisatum, and S. hexaphylla respectively increased and reduced by 95% shading. N. aciculata showed lowest at 35% shading. The seedling quality of D. racemosum decreased by 95% shading I. anisatum and N. aciculata showed lowest at 95% shading, and S. hexaphylla showed no significant difference. As a result, 35% shading was suitable for seedling products of the 4 species evergreen broad-leaved trees.
