The necessity of the development of unique Korean colors is increasingly stressed to accelerate our cultural identity building and the improvement of national brand images. At present, a lot of studies have examined traditional colors and the color consciousness of Korean people. Basically, Korean traditional colors and color consciousness have been under the influence of natural environments. The purpose of this study was to examine plant resources in our country. It’s specifically meant to investigate the colors of 446 kinds of native flowers among the plant resources, which have long grown wild in our country. When the hue, value and chroma of the 446 kinds of native flowers were analyzed, they were categorized into 10 color groups. 34 kinds of native flowers that accounted for 7.6 percent were red, and eight kinds that accounted for 1.8 percent were orange. 88 kinds that represented 19.6 percent were yellow, and 22 kinds that accounted for 5.1 percent were blue. 32 kinds that represented 7.3 percent were light purple, and 18 kinds that accounted for four percent were pink. 28 kinds that represented 6.2 percent were purple, and 45 kinds that accounted for 14.2 percent were redpurple. 159 kinds that represented 35.5 percent were white, and 11 kinds that accounted for 2.6 percent were green. Munsell distribution tables were used to analyze the distribution of the colors of the native flowers and the scale of their color images to determine their color images. As a result, it’s found that the reds and oranges had an intermediate or low value and an intermediate chroma, and that the yellows had a high value and an intermediate chroma. The value and chroma of the color groups from the blues to the purples were diverse, ranging between 2 and less than 10. And there were three different kinds of soft color images in the native flowers: ‘cheerful,’ ‘natural’ and ‘elegant.’
