This study was performed to establish the basis of the development of urban agriculture experience programs that will be applied to botanical gardens and arboretums. A survey was conducted and analyzed to find out how, when, and why the general users visit botanic gardens and arboretums and what both the general users and staffs of gardens prefer and want from programs related to urban agriculture activities. Users mostly visited botanical gardens and arboretums less than once a year and during fall season. Users mainly visited on Saturday with their family and friends, stayed for 1~3 hours, and used primarily their own car as transportation. 82.9% of respondents answered that they would utilize urban agricultural experience programs if there are such a things and 76.5% of garden staffs answered urban agriculture experience programs are necessary. In urban agricultural activities which they want to be introduced to the botanic gardens, the result showed that users wanted ‘use of harvests’, ‘vegetable harvest’, and ‘flower harvest’, and staffs preferred ‘repotting’, ‘sowing’, ‘transplanting’, ‘pruning’, ‘watering’, and ‘weeding’. In the preference survey to the type of urban agricultural activities, users preferred emotional experience, followed by sensory, behavioral, cognitive, and relationship experiences and both staffs and users highly preferred emotional and sensory experiences, that was statistically significant. Users expected to obtain the emotional effects through urban agricultural activities, that was statistically significant.
