Attitudes and Preferences of Horticultural Industry Employer Toward Multicultural Immigrant Women’s Employment

This study has been carried out to investigate 63 employers and site managers’ recognitions and attitudes for employment of multi-cultural migrant women in the horticultural industry so that their employment rate can increase in the industry by facing up to the current situations and improving the needs of customized proper employment educations. The survey is consisted of respondents’ general characteristics, natures of employment in the horticultural industry, required site skills, and recognition or attitudes for employment of multi-cultural migrant women. With regard to the natures of employment in the horticultural industry, the most required skills for employment of migrant women and Korean people are language skills followed by cultural adaptation and horticultural skills followed by interpersonal relationship skills, respectively. This survey has revealed that the most important site skill in the horticultural industry is the efficiency of task and the reasons for avoidance of multi-cultural migrant women are lack of communication skills in Korean language, work ability difference from Korean people, and cultural differences. It has been also revealed that benefits of multi-cultural migrant women employment in the horticultural industry are different depending on types of business. Through this survey and research, the employers’ recognitions, attitudes, and the education needs of site skills in the horticultural industry have been studied to increase the employment opportunities for multi-cultural migrant women.
