Effects of Horticultural Therapy on the Self-Expression, Emotion and Sociality of Children at Risk for Emotional and Behavioral Disorders

The purpose of this study is to identify the effects of the horticultural therapy on self-experssiion, emotion, and sociality of children at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders. The horticultural therapy program was composed of Initial, Transition, Working and Final Stage based on the group development stages by Corey. The evaluation results are as follows. In the test of self-expression of the subjects, content self-expression and non-verbal self-expression showed significant improvement. In the test of emotion of the subjects, will to activity, concentration, sense of accomplishment, and looks showed significant improvement. In the test of sociality of the subjects, morality, leadership, cooperation, and participation showed significant improvement. As such, it was found that the horticultural therapy program according to group development stages was very effective on the improvement of the self-expression, emotion, and sociality of children at risk for emotional and behavioral disorders.
