The Characteristics of Flora at Gogunsan Archipelago area in Jeollabuk-do

  • 23

This study aims to survey on the fauna of the 5 islands in Gogunsan Archipelago, especially the surroundings of Gubulgil trails, Jeollabuk-do. The results are as follows. The numbers of vascular plants were summarized as 251 taxa; 78 families, 184 genera, 227 species, 22 varieties and 2 forma. The numbers of vascular plants by islands were 113 taxa in Shinsi-do, 163 taxa in Sunyu-do, 100 taxa in Munyeo-do, 74 taxa in Jangja-do and 114 taxa in Bangchuk-do respectively. Korean endemic plants of this area were 9 taxa; Sasa coreana, Forsythia koreana, Paulownia coreana and Weigela subsessilis. The floristic regional indicator plants found in this area were 40 taxa comprising 1 taxa of grade Ⅳ, 8 taxa of grade Ⅲ, 2 taxa of grade Ⅱ and 29 taxa of gradeⅠ. The naturalized plants were identified as 14 taxa totally and highest proportion in Sunyu-do of 12 taxa, Munyeo-do of 6 taxa, Jangja-do of 4 taxa, Bangchuk-do of 3 taxa and Shinsi-do of 2 taxa. Sunyu-do is the gateway for the Gogunsan sightseeing and always crowded with people coming and going. That means increasing human pressures can cause the human disturbance to the wildlife ecosystem. The percent of Urbanized Index(UI) and Naturalized Index(NI) were 5.01% and 5.57% totally and that shows the vegetation status of investigated area was comparatively well conserved until now. But undergoing Saemangum Development Project can create negative ecological changes and a long-term environmental monitoring and assessment is needed in this area.
