도시공원의 물리적 환경개선을 위한 CPTED 이론 적용에 관한 연구

A Study on the Application of CPTED Theory to the Physical Environmental Improvement of City Parks: In the Case of Children’s Parks in Dalseo-gu, Daegu

  • 119

Urban parks serve as an important factor for residents, but are recently used as place of crimes which have drastically increased in parks. In this study, the theory of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) was applied to four urban parks located in Dalseo-gu, Daegu by investigating the users’ satisfaction with safety using surveys, and by analysing physical environment with a checklist based on five CPTED design principles. The survey results on the psychological and physical safety in the park indicate that more than half of the respondents have low satisfaction with crime prevention. In addition, the field survey on physical environment with the CPTED principle-based checklist shows that the principle ‘Activity Support’ has the highest suitability of physical environment for crime prevention, and the principle ‘Territorial Reinforcement’ also has high suitability. But, the principles ‘Natural Surveillance’, ‘Natural Access Control’, and ‘Maintenance’ have low suitability, which need to be enhanced in park redevelopment. Based on the analysis results, suggestions on tree planting, fence types, installation of CCTV were made to improve crime prevention effects through environmental design, which were placed less importance on previous urban parks.
