Effects of Forest Prenatal Education Program on Stress and Emotional Stability of Pregnant Women

The purpose of the study is to research and analyze the impact of forest prenatal education program on stress relief and emotional stability of pregnant women. The study implemented questionnaire survey for 133 expecting mother, from 24th week to 38th week, and total 11 sessions of forest prenatal education program from April 2011 till December 2011. The program consisted of various programs such as five-sense experience in forest, meditation, wisdom from the forest, Forest mobile-making, concert in the forest, etc. The questionnaires were adopted from pregnant women stress scal and emotional stability scale. Pregnant women stress scale is composed of baby stress, mother stress and spouse stress, and emotional stability scale has total 4 sub factors of 1) nerve and anxiety, 2) worry and fear, 3) satisfaction and stability, and 4) confidence and optimism. To analyze the data, SPSS/WIN 18.0 software was used, and t-test were conducted to analyze the pregnancy stress and emotional stability gap before and after the forest prenatal education program. The summary of the result is as following. First, pregnancy stress level changed statistically significantly(p<.011), from 2.87 before the program to 2.26 after the program. Second, emotional stability of the expected mothers grew in statistically significant level from 4.98 in the pre-program score to 5.5 in the post-program score(p<.01, p<.001). Based on the findings, forest prenatal education program can be an effective means to deliver positive changes in expected mothers’ stress and emotional stability.
