실내 수직녹화시스템 적용을 위한 베고니아 ‘Harmony’s Red Robin’의 생장 특성 및 적색 무늬 발현에 미치는 광질의 효과

Effects of Light Quality on Growth Characteristics and Red Variegated Expression in Leaves of Begonia rex ‘Harmony’s Red Robin’ for Indoor Vertical Gardening System

Begonia rex ‘Harmony’s Red Robin’is a well-known and popular indoor plant with a unique red variegation. However, the color of variegation tends to be fade indoors because of poor light conditions, so the ornamental value decreases. This study was carried out to investigate the effect of light quality on growth characteristics and red variegated expression in leaves of Begonia rex ‘Harmony’s Red Robin’ indoors. Seven light qualities were treated by the fluorescent lamp(F), and LEDs - white(W), red(R), blue(B), green(G), yellow (Y), and red: blue = 4:1(RB). Indoor air temperature and relative humidity were maintained at 25±4℃ and 60±5%, respectively. Indoor light intensity was adjusted at 60μmolㆍm⁻²ㆍs⁻¹ PPDF(photosynthetic photon flux density), with 12-hour daylength for eight weeks. As results, growth characteristics was good under RB, W, and B LEDs. Total number of leaves increased under RB and B. Total leaf area and leaf fresh weight more increased under RB, W, and B among treatment groups. In the variegated expression characteristics, the variegation ratio was good in RB and B, and the red color expression of variegation was best under B. Finally, blue LED would be applicable to improve expression of red color in leaves of Begonia rex ‘Harmony’s Red Robin’ indoors. However, when considering plant growth, the human visual sight, and aesthetic environments, further work is needed for the application of combination ratio with white LED.
