A Study on the Characteristics and Inhabitants Awareness of the Park: Focused on green infrastructure in Edogawa City, Japan

Urban park are recognized as an effective tool to enhance quality of urban environment as well as quality of resident’s lives. For this reason, many cities have attempted to introduce green infrastructures in urban and regional planning. There is a large body of research on the topic; especially studies carried out from ecological perspective and build up method. In order to plan for and establish parks more effectively, and to restructure the green environment in many more cities in the future, it is necessary to clarify the influence parks have on residents. This study explores how urban parks and green space planning produces better quality urban environments without having to designate new parks and green spaces. The on-site questionnaire method was applied to 371 individuals who were collected as the two study districts in Edogawa city, Japan. The collected data were analyzed by t-test, factor analysis and multiple regression. The results of the study indicated that factors affecting satisfaction of green infrastructure are park quality and accessibility. Finally, green infrastructure maybe utilized as a spatial strategy of importance to heighten values of parks and green spaces in the urban areas, as a potential tool in boosting satisfaction with higher accessibility to park and green spaces for the residents.
