This research was carried to determine the effect of 1-MCP pre-treatments on the maintenance of freshness and quality of Oriental cut lily‘Siberia’. Flowering was delayed and flower size were reduced by treated for 1 hour with 1.5mgㆍL⁻¹ 1-MCP in the chamber maintained at 5°C compared with other treatments. Chlorophyll concentration was the highest when treated for 1 hour with 1.5mgㆍL⁻¹ 1-MCP in the chamber maintained at 5°C. Fresh weight increased by treated for 1 hour with 1.5mgㆍL⁻¹ 1-MCP in the chamber maintained at 5°C. In case of water uptake increased by treated for 0.5 hour with 3.0mgㆍL⁻¹ 1-MCP in the chamber maintained at 15°C, and water balance showed negative (-) value from 7 days by treated with control, but showed negative (-) value from 9 days when treated with 1-MCP. Especially water balance maintained positive (+) value until 11 days by treated for 1 hour with 1.5mgㆍL⁻¹ 1-MCP in the chamber maintained at 5°C. Flower-bud maintained green color when treated for 0.5 hour with 3.0mgㆍL⁻¹ 1-MCP in 5°C chamber. When treated for 1 hour with 1.5mgㆍL⁻¹ 1-MCP in 5°C chamber, the vase life and quality of cut flower were increased and extended, respectively for 19 days. The number of bacteria on the surface of cut-end stem decreased when treated for 1 hour with 1.5~3.0mgㆍL⁻¹ 1-MCP in the chamber maintained at 5°C compared with other treatments. Ethylene production and respiration rate decreased remarkably when treated for 1 hour with 3.0mgㆍL⁻¹ 1-MCP in 15°C chamber. It is suggested that pre-treatment for 1 hour with 1.5mgㆍL⁻¹ 1-MCP in the chamber maintained at 5°C could be used to increase of water uptake according to control of bacteria, freshness maintenance, and quality of cut lily ‘Siberia’.
