초등학생의 인식 조사를 통한 초등 사회과 인구교육 방향 탐색

Exploring Population Education for Elementary Social Studies by Surveying the Awareness of Elementary Students: Focusing on the Low Fertility and Aging Phenomenon

본 연구는 저출산 고령화 현상에 대한 초등학생의 인식을 조사하여 사회과 인구교육의 방향에 대한 시사점을 얻는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 도시와 촌락에 거주하는 6학년 학생 255명을 연구 대상으로 선정하여 저출산 고령화 현상에 대한 일반적 인식과 관련 가치관에 대한 질문지 조사를 실시하고, 통계 분석을 하였다. 연구 결과 학생들은 저출산 고령화 현상을 자신의 삶과 동떨어진 것으로 인식하고 있었으며, 저출산 고령화 현상이 야기할 수 있는 문제에 대해서도 제대로 인식하고 있지 못하 였다. 또한 이미 이전 학년도에 사회과에서 저출산 고령화 관련 내용을 학습하였음에도 불구하고 저출산 고령화 현상에 대한 오개념을 드러내기도 하였다. 초등 사회과교육에서는 저출산 고령화 현상에 대한 초등학생들의 인식 수준을 높이기 위하여 향후 교육과정 및 교과서 내용 개선, 관련 내용에 대한 교사교육 강화 등의 노력을 기울여야 할 것이다.

The objective of this study was to understand implications for the direction of educating population to elementary students during social studies by surveying the awareness of elementary students about the low fertility and aging phenomenon. In order to achieve this objective, this study selected 255 sixth graders who were residing in urban and rural areas, and conducted a survey on the general awareness and values related to the low fertility and aging phenomenon. The results of this study showed that the students thought that the low fertility and aging phenomenon bore no relation to the realities of their lives and they did not recognize the problems that could be caused by the low fertility and aging phenomenon. Although they studied topics related to the low fertility and aging phenomenon during prior social study classes, they showed misconception about the low fertility and aging phenomenon. It is necessary to improve the curriculum and textbook contents and strengthen teacher education on related contents to raise the awareness level of elementary school students on the low fertility and aging phenomenon.
