The Effects of Korea’s Foreign Direct Investment on China’s Economic Growth

After China implemented its policy of reform and that of an open economy , it enhanced the industrial structure and the competitiveness of domestic enterprises by actively attracting foreign direct investment policies. In the 26 years since the economic exchange between China and South Korea began, which started rapidly in 1992, they have not only cooperated closely in the field of economics, but also in politics and diplomacy, and so the quality of this development itself has improved. Therefore, this study covers 17 provinces and cities in China, such as Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai where South Korea’s foreign direct investment in China is active. For the period covering 1992 to 2017, using a total of 26 years of panel data, of the whole and each period was carried out to understand the impact of South Korea’s foreign direct investment in China on China’s economic growth. The analysis showed that although South Korea’s foreign direct investment in China is different during varying times of the study period, overall, it had a very positive impact on China’s economic growth. From different periods, since 1998, in addition to the western region, it has also had a positive impact on economic growth in China’s eastern and central regions.
