Importance of Market Access in Paving the Way towards an East Asian FTA

Market access is the most sensitive and critical factor in concluding negotiations for FTAs, while triggering the FTA domino effects. This paper speculates on how to achieve an East Asian FTA (EAFTA), especially in terms of the market access of FTAs, and on how to facilitate the consolidation of the overlapping FTAs in East Asia into an EAFTA, while minimizing related costs during the integration process. The findings from this study could give implications for the competitive regionalism of FTAs in East Asia, and the role of Korea’s FTA policy in making a roadmap for realizing an EAFTA.
