This study is to analyze the productivity of overseas tuna fisheries comparing longline to pursue seine based on various DEA models with respect to individual fishing vessel. We found that considerable number of the fishing vessels had already reached at a good deal of productivity. Nevertheless, we also found that there was still a room for improvement in the productivity after we applied various models of super-efficiency in order to trace out differences in them. As results of rank-sum test, the average pure efficiency of longline fishery was higher than that of pursue seine fishery by 8.7% point, proven to be statistically significant at 5%. On the other hand, the average scale efficiency of pursue seine fishery was higher than that of longline fishery by 17% point, also proven to be statistically significant at 1%. When we applied a slack based super efficiency model, input-oriented under the assumption of variable returns to scale, we could find the average super-efficiency of longline fishery was higher than that of pursue seine fishery by 7.8% point, proven to be statistically significant at 10%.
