A Scheme for the Trade Increase between Korea and Russia through the Enhancement of Fisheries Cooperation

It is essential that Korea should cooperate with the coastal countries which have abundant fisheries resources in order to develop a way of difficulties in fisheries and to secure a steady supply source of marine products for consumers. It is known that Russia is abundant in fisheries resources and has a high value of development as a target country for fisheries cooperation. And it is judged that Korea s advance into the fishing grounds of the Russian Far East is significant in terms of policy. Therefore, it is required for both countries to give a careful consideration on the fisheries reformation program and the long-term development plan of the Far East Zabaikal region and to promote the cooperation scheme. These efforts should be conducted not only to find a way of difficulties in fisheries and to develop newly economical and multi-purposed foreign fishing grounds, but also to enhance fisheries cooperation between Korea and Russia and between South Korea and North Korea to be developed in the future.
