대학생의 ‘한다요, 합니다요’류 사용에 대한 연구

A Study on University Students’ Usage of ‘handayo’ and ‘habnidayo’

이 연구는 현재 한국 사회에서 ‘한다요, 합니다요’류가 어느 정도, 어떤 의도로 사용되고 있는가에 대한 관심에서 출발하였다. 이를 위해 이 연구에서는 먼저 ‘한다요, 합니다요’류 사용에 대한 문법적 적절성에 대한 논의, 사회언어학적인 입장에서 살펴본 의미, 사용자 계층, 사용 범위에 대한 논의를 살펴보았다. 그 결과 ‘한다요’, ‘합니 다요’의 문법적 적절성은 상대높임법과 관련해 인식이 변화해 온 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 사회언어학적인 입장에서는 여성, 인터넷 통신 언어 등과 관련해 논의가 많은 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 선행된 논의에서 보는 것처럼 ‘한다요, 합니다요’는 사용의 적절성과 상황 등과 관련해 많은 인식 변화를 겪고 있는 표현이라고 할 수 있다. 이에이 연구에서는 현재 20대 대학생들이 해당 표현을 어떻게 사용하고 있는지를 살펴보기 위하여, 2018년 7월에 서울 소재 K대학교의 계절학기 수강생 105명의 설문 응답결 과를 중심으로 두 표현의 적절성, 의미, 사용 상황에 대한 인식을 알아보았다. 그 결과 듣기, 읽기에서는 비교적 보통이라고 생각하고 있었으나 말하기, 쓰기에서는 적절 하지 않다고 생각하는 것을 확인하였다. 또한 선행연구와 달리 여성과 남성 모두 사용하고 있으며, 통신 언어뿐만 아니라 일상대화에서도 사용하고 있는 것을 알 수 있었다. 한국어의 존대법은 많은 변화를 겪고 있고 이러한 언어 변화의 적절성에 대하여 서로 다른 의견이 존재하고 있다. 이러한 때에 언어 사용 상황 이해 및 적절한 의사소통을 위해 이 연구가 작은 도움이 되리라고 생각한다.

This study started from an interest in how much and what kind of intentions ‘handayo, habnidayo’ are used in the Korean society. For this purpose, this study first examined the discussions on the grammatical appropriateness of the use of ‘handayo, habnidayo’, its meaning from a sociolinguistic perspective, user hierarchy and scope of use. The results confirmed that the perception of the grammatical relevance of ‘handayo, habnidayo’ has changed in regards to hearer-oriented honorific system. From a sociolinguistic view, it was confirmed that there are many discussions about females, internet communication language, and so on. As can be seen from preceding discussions, ‘handayo, habnidayo’ is an expression that is undergoing a lot of changes in perception regarding the appropriateness of use and situation. In this study, in order to examine how 20 college students are using the expressions, based on the results of 105 questionnaires of summer semester students of K university in Seoul in July, 2018, we examined the appropriateness of two expressions, their meanings, and the perception of their use. The results confirmed that it was thought to be relatively normal in listening and reading but found to be inappropriate in speaking and writing. Also, unlike previous studies, both women and men use it, and it was found that they use it not only in communicative language but also in in everyday conversation. The Korean honorifics are undergoing many changes and there are different opinions regarding the appropriateness of such language changes. This study will assist in understanding the language usage situation and proper communication.
