A new sesame variety “Jinki” was developed from Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute in 2005. The cross was made by high quality and yielding “Jinbaek” to the F1 hybrid of “Suwon 129” with high yield capacity and “ALM3” with disease resistance, followed by pedigree selection, yield test and RYT by the sesame breeding team at the National Institute of Crop Science and Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute up to 2005. The variety showed higher disease resistance, dark seed coloring and higher yielding rather than those of check variety “Yangheuk”. Average culm length and numbers of capsule per plant were 124 cm, 67 respectively. It’s 1000 grains weight was about 2.77 g indicating 0.09g lower than that of “Yangheuk”, and it’s oil content was about 46%. “Jinki” also contained total 2.50 mg/g of such lignans as sesamin and sesamolin. The average yield of “Jinki” was 93kg per 10a at the national-wide regional performance. A new sesame variety “Jinki” was developed from Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute in 2005.
