Volatile oil composition of China and Japan accessions were determined to obtain breeding materials for non perillaketone type vegetable perilla. Leaf characteristics were examined from the preselected three accessions of China to save harvesting labor. Three among nine accessions from Japan posses perillketone and beta-caryophyllene as two major volatile oil compositions, which were employed in breeding of lower perillaketone types. Two accessions from Japan were contained limonene more than 60% and had longer period of picking leaf than others were selected as new materials for limonene type vegetable perilla. All three accessions from China were the good source of breed varieties for same leaf size regardless of stalk position. Two of them were contained beta-caryophyllene and elemicin or perillene except perillaketone as major volatile oil composition and more leaves with longer period of picking leaf. They were incorporated into breeding program for the same leaf size.
