A new soybean cultivar, “Daepung”, was released by the National Crop Experiment Station, RDA, in 2002. This cultivar was derived from a cross of Baegunkong with Shinpaldalkong2 in the summer season, 1992. After pedigree nursery from F2 to F5, the breeding line, SS92108-27-4-4, was selected and evaluated in yield trials from 1998 to 2000 at the National Crop Experiment Station, Suwon. Regional yield trials for this line designated as Suwon215 were performed from 2001 to 2002 on nine locations. Daepung has a determinate growth habit, white flower color, tawny pubescene, yellow testa and light brown hilum color. The leaflet shape of this cultivar is ovoid, and plant height is shorter than Taekwangkong. It is resistant to Soybean mosaic virus(SMV), bacterial pustule, and seed infection diseases including purple seed stain, mottling and pod & stem blight. Daepung has medium seed weight (20.7 g per 100 seeds) and texture and chemical composition to be suitable for the raw material of the fermented soyfood and the tofu. The average yield in the regional adaptation yield trials on eight locations was 3.05 MT/ha, which was higher by 20% than Taekwangkong, check cultivar.
