A new yellow gerbera (Gerbera hybrida Hort.) cultivar “Chowoo” was developed from a cross between Sardana and Salina followed by seedling and line selections at the Flower Breeding Research Institute, Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extention Services (ARES) in 1999. Characteristics trials were conducted for three times from 2001 to 2002. Newly bred “Chowoo” have shown yellow colour (RHS, 14-B), brown center, semi-double type, and large flower. It also was in good harmony in ray floret colour and flower center colour with stable flower shape. The vase life was 10.2 days. The average yield of “Chowoo” was 48.3 flowers per plant a year in greenhouse yield trails carried out from 2001 to 2002. This cultivar was registered for a commercialization in 2003. “Chowoo” would be cultured under greenhouse condition in Korea.
