Mediating Effects of Grit on the Relationship Between Social Support and Career Barrier for Undergraduates

본 연구는 대학생의 사회적지지가 진로장벽에 미치는 영향에서 그릿이 매개하는지 확인하고, 이를 통해 대학생의 진로장벽을 낮추기 위해 진로상담과 교육에서 무엇에 초점을 두어야 하는지 이해하기 위해 진행되었다. 이를 위해 2019년 3월~4월에 거쳐 취업을 준비하고 있는 대학생 317명을 대상으로 사회적지지, 진로장벽, 그릿 검사를 실시하였다. 각 연구변인의 상관관계분석을 실시하였으며, 그릿의 매개효과를 알아보기 위하여 순차적 회귀분석을 실시하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 사회적지지와 그릿은 유의미한 정적상관을 나타냈고, 이 두 변인은 각각 진로장벽과 유의미한 부적상관을 나타냈다. 둘째, 사회적지지는 진로장벽에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 사회적지지가 진로장벽에 미치는 영향에서 그릿이 부분매개하였다. 이러한 연구결과는 대학생의 진로장벽을 낮추기 위해 사회적지지가 중요함을 재확인 한 것이며, 대학생들의 그릿을 증진시키는 개입이 유용할 수 있음을 시사하는 것이다. 연구의 결과로 대학생 대상 진로상담 및 교육에 주는 시사점과 연구의 제한점에 대해 논의하였다.

This study aims to (a) investigate whether grit mediates the effects of social support on career barrier for undergraduates and (b) identify the essential focus of career counseling and education required to lower the career barrier for undergraduates. To this end, a questionnaire survey on social support, career barrier, and grit was administered between March and April 2019 to 317 undergraduates preparing for employment. Each study variable was analyzed with descriptive statistics, a reliability test, and correlational analysis, and the mediating effects of grit were examined using sequential logistic regression. The results were as follows. First, a significant positive correlation was seen between social support and grit, and each of these two variables showed a significant negative correlation to career barrier. Second, social support had a significant effect on career barrier. Third, grit partially mediated the effects of social support on career barrier. These results reaffirm that social support is crucial in lowering the career barrier for undergraduates, suggesting that interventions to improve students’ grit may be useful in this regard. Based on these results, the implications for career counseling and education for undergraduates are discussed along with the limitations of the study.
